Getting an electric aircraft also means looking into the possibility of charging it.
The Velis Electro comes with a portable Skycharge, but what is this charger exactly? What does it need to function? And how many kW do you need available to charge your aircraft?
First, what is the SKYCHARGE? Who created it?
This electric aircraft charger is an approved EASA charger powered by Green Motion (EATON) and Pipistrel.
- Fixed Skycharger : that can charge one aeroplane.
- Skycharger 40 :That can charge up to 2 planes simultaneously.
- Skycharger 80 : That can charge up to 4 planes simultaneously.
- Mobile Skycharger with wheels that can charge one electric plane (via GB/T charger plug) and also electric cars (via CCS or CHAdeMO plug), this mobile version comes without installation costs, all you require is an existing CEE socket (5 pins, 3P + N + E).
The battery of the Velis Electro can be charged in less than an hour if you use 40kw. But, if you are not in a hurry, you can also choose to charge with less Watt; on the SKYCHARGER display you have the option to charge with 5kW, 10kW, 20kW, 30kW or 40kW. So don’t panic if you don’t have 40kW available to charge the aircraft, you can still do it with no problem!
That being said, creating a fixed Skycharge configuration could be a great investment for an airport, by giving the option to charge your aircraft (and others) in a fast and reliable way to let ‘green schooling’ become a reality and operate in a more sustainable way!
